About St Fiacre, Clontubrid
St Fiacre, Clontubrid was built in 1841. It has a simple single-cell form and rendered walls under a pitched slate roof. Notable features include stained-glass windows, a bellcote and an internal gallery.
History
The site represents a continuation of ecclesiastical presence with origins in a holy well known as Toberabrugh or Toberadrugh. A freestanding hut over this well, located to the south-east, dates to pre-1840. The church itself was built in 1841, shortly following Catholic Emancipation in 1829, and is set back from the road in its own grounds alongside a graveyard containing various cut-stone markers.
