About St Munchin, Gathabawn
St Munchin, Gathabawn was built in 1840. It has a simple single-cell form under a pitched slate roof. Notable features include stained-glass windows, a bellcote and an internal gallery.
The building
This detached four-bay double-height single-cell Catholic church was built in 1840. It features a pitched slate roof with clay ridge tiles and a rendered gabled bellcote to the east apex containing a cast-iron bell. The exterior has painted roughcast walls with pointed-arch window openings having block-and-start surrounds and hood mouldings. Inside, there is a timber panelled gallery on cast-iron pillars, decorative plasterwork ceiling roses, and a decorative clay-tiled floor in the glazed timber panelled porch.
