About St Nicholas, Tulla
St Nicholas, Tulla was built between 1846 and 1847. It has a four-bay nave and rendered walls under a pitched slate roof. Notable features include stained-glass windows, a bellcote and an internal gallery.
The building
This detached five-bay Gothic-style Catholic church features a four-bay nave and a shallow chancel continuing into a two-storey sacristy. The structure combines tooled limestone ashlar on the entrance front with unpainted rendered walls elsewhere. Architectural details include cut-limestone window surrounds with hood mouldings, Y-mullions forming trefoil-headed arrangements, and Tudor-headed door openings. The interior retains timber panelled Gothic-style confessional boxes and a gallery supported by fluted cast-iron pillars.
