About Visitation of the Blessed Virgin Mary
Visitation of the Blessed Virgin Mary was built between 1847 and 1855 in the Gothic Revival style. It has a cruciform plan with a five-bay nave, built of squared limestone under a pitched slate roof. Notable features include stained-glass windows, a bellcote and an internal gallery. It was designed by Patrick Byrne.
History
The surrounding district had previously shared the name Ballybough; the church's 1856 dedication as Our Lady of Fair View supplied the name Fairview to the area. Later additions include the mortuary and porches, executed with materials and detailing matching the earlier work.
