About Stranorlar Presbyterian Church
Stranorlar Presbyterian Church was built between 1906 and 1907. The church has rendered walls under a pitched slate roof. Notable features include a three-stage tower, stained-glass windows, pinnacles and window tracery.
History
The congregation traces its roots to at least 1675, with Stranorlar reputedly being the second oldest Presbyterian community in Ireland, established in 1649. The current building replaced an earlier church dating from c. 1800. It was designed by civil engineer John McIntyre of Letterkenny for the Revd. Curry, with a foundation stone laid by Mrs Ross Hastings on 14 April 1906. The estimated cost was £1,496 10s, though the final cost was c. £1,800.
