About Kilteevogue St John (Aghaveagh)
Kilteevogue St John (Aghaveagh) was built around 1877. It has a five-bay nave and rendered walls under a pitched slate roof. Notable features include a bell tower, stained-glass windows and window tracery.
History
The church replaced an earlier ruinous structure and was built between 1877 and 1879 on land donated by William H. M. Style of Glenmore House. Samuel Donaldson of Glenafton is said to have contributed generously to the construction costs. The building was consecrated in 1879 by the Bishop of Derry and Raphoe, with twelve clergymen in attendance. The architect was possibly John Kennedy of Derry, and McClays of Strabane served as the main contractor.
