About St Teresa of Avila, Ardrahan
St Teresa of Avila, Ardrahan was built in 1856. The church has pebbledashed walls under a pitched tiled roof. Notable features include stained-glass windows, an internal gallery and mosaic work.
History
The church was refurbished in 1965. Edward Martyn commissioned the English artist Christopher Whale for stained glass here; the commission prompted Martyn’s campaign for Irish-made church glass and is linked to the foundation of An Túr Gloine by Sarah Purser.
