About Church of St Thomas the Apostle
Church of St Thomas the Apostle dates from 1840. It has a T-shaped plan with a two-bay nave and rendered walls under a pitched slate roof. Notable features include a three-stage bell tower, stained-glass windows, an internal gallery and carved Stations of the Cross.
The building
The square-profile three-stage bell tower was erected in 1947 on the north-east elevation. The interior contains an early twentieth-century marble altar and a timber gallery supported by round-plan cast-iron columns. A tooled limestone holy water stoup by the doorway appears to be older than the building and may have been used in an earlier incarnation of the church.
