St. Patrick's Church, Patrickswell

The building

This freestanding gable-fronted Roman Catholic church in Patrickswell, Co. Limerick, was built c. 1820. It comprises a five-bay nave and a single-bay sacristy with lean-tos to the rear. The structure features lined-and-ruled rendered walls with quoins, a pitched artificial slate roof, and an open work bellcote with a wrought-iron cross finial. Pointed arch openings are framed by render hoodmouldings and painted stone sills. The interior contains a carved timber altar and a timber gallery supported by cast-iron columns with trefoil-headed panels. The site is enclosed by rendered boundary walls with limestone copings and accessed via spear-headed cast-iron gates.
