About St. Mary's Church, Castlemagner
St. Mary's Church, Castlemagner was built around 1880 in the Gothic Revival style. It has a cruciform plan with a four-bay nave, built of squared limestone under a pitched slate roof. Notable features include stained-glass windows, a bellcote and a marble altar.
The building
The porch and sacristy are later additions that continue the Gothic treatment of the main building. Inside, the roof is formed from a complex network of timber A-frames and scissors trusses, with more elaborate framing over the crossing; the east-transept entrance has a carved hood moulding and limestone surround.
