About St. James, Ardfield
St. James, Ardfield dates from 1832. It has a T-shaped plan with a four-bay nave and rendered walls under a pitched slate roof. Notable features include stained-glass windows, a bellcote and an internal gallery.
The building
St James is a double-height Roman Catholic church located north of Ardfield. The structure features a kingpost trussed timber roof, a white marble altar with grey marble panels and red marble colonettes, and a fluted torus reredos panel. A mosaic dedication plaque on the south-east elevation displays the 1832 build date, while a rubble stone wall and limestone gate piers with cast-iron gates enclose the site.
