About Church of the Immaculate Conception, Clonakilty
Church of the Immaculate Conception, Clonakilty was completed in 1880 in the Gothic Revival style. It has an eight-bay nave, built of squared sandstone under a pitched slate roof. Notable features include a two-stage tower, stained-glass windows, an internal gallery and a marble altar.
Notable people
Fr Matthew O'Donovan undertook the task of building the church after becoming parish priest in 1868 but died in 1875 before its completion. C. S. Ashlin is identified as the architect.
