About St. Brigid’s Church, Crosshaven
St. Brigid’s Church, Crosshaven was built between 1865 and 1870. It has an eight-bay nave, built of squared limestone under a pitched slate roof. Notable features include a three-stage bell tower, stained glass including a rose window, mosaic work and a marble altar. It was designed by Edward Welby Pugin.
History
Construction was carried out by Richard Evans of Cork in Little Island limestone. The belfry, which belongs to the later entrance tower, is thought to be the work of the architect Coakley, giving the later tower work a separate attribution.
