About Corkbeg St Michael & Allangels (Whitegate)
Corkbeg St Michael & Allangels (Whitegate) dates from 1881 and is built in the Gothic Revival style. The church is built of squared limestone under a pitched slate roof. Notable features include a three-stage tower, stained glass including a rose window, pinnacles and window tracery.
The building
The church features a freestanding barn-type form with five-bay side aisles and a two-bay porch. Walls combine snecked sandstone and limestone with brick string courses, while the west elevation displays carved floral motifs on buttresses. A later three-stage tower by Atkins stands to the north-west, topped by a cast-iron finial. The site also contains the remains of a seventeenth-century church and a graveyard.
