About St. Bridgid's Church, Clara

St. Bridgid's Church, Clara was built in 1881. It has a cruciform plan, built of limestone under a pitched slate roof. Notable features include stained-glass windows, an internal gallery and lancet windows. The spire was added in 1930.

The building

Designed in 1876 by J.J. O'Callaghan and completed in 1881, the church is apparently a miniature version of Killarney Cathedral. It features a cruciform plan with coursed rock-faced limestone walls and a pitched slate roof. The structure includes a sacristy, side aisles, and a tourelle, with a spire added to the central tower in 1930. Rose windows adorn the transepts, while the interior contains stained glass by Mayer and a gallery at the west end.
