About Rahan
Rahan was built around 1175 in the Romanesque style. It has a cruciform plan and rendered walls under a pitched slate roof. Notable features include stained-glass windows and window tracery. The church stands in its own graveyard.
The building
The nave was largely rebuilt in 1732, as indicated by a date plaque above the door. The structure retains Romanesque features, including a chancel window with chevron design and engaged columns. An ogee-headed window on the north side features carved limestone surrounds with animal head decoration. The interior contains a chancel arch carved with human masks. The church stands within a graveyard bounded by a random rubble wall and wrought-iron gate.
