About Sacred Heart, Arva
Sacred Heart, Arva was built between 1927 and 1929 in the Romanesque style. It has a seven-bay nave, built of squared limestone under a pitched slate roof. Notable features include an internal gallery, mosaic work and buttressed walls.
History
Designed by architect R.H. Byrne, this church stands on the site of an earlier T-plan structure built c.1860. Construction was carried out by Charles Doyle & Sons of Mullingar. The building is attributed to Byrne, who was a well-respected architect during the early twentieth century.
