About Church of the Immaculate Conception, Coronea
Church of the Immaculate Conception, Coronea was built in 1926 in the Gothic Revival style. It has a seven-bay nave, built of squared limestone. Notable features include stained-glass windows, a bellcote and an internal gallery. It was designed by Edmund Sharpe.
The building
The church was designed by W.H. Byrne & Son and built in 1926 by Felix O'Hare of Warrenpoint at a cost of £12,230. It replaced a T-plan church of 1798 sited to the west within the same townland near the penal mass rock of Drumyouth. Edmund Sharpe of Dublin designed the altars.
