The diocese gives the date of the church as 1861. It is the parish church of Bandon, a parish taking in Bandon town and Gaggin together with Kilbrogan, Carhue, Clashafree, Cloughmacsimon, Clancoolmore and Clancoolbeg. The parish's second church, Our Lady Chapel at Gaggin, is dated to 1929.
