About Ballymodan St Peter (Bandon)
Ballymodan St Peter (Bandon) was built between 1847 and 1849. It has a cruciform plan with a five-bay nave, built of limestone under a pitched slate roof. Notable features include a four-stage bell tower, stained glass including a rose window, mosaic work and crenellated parapets. It was designed by Joseph Welland.
History
The church was constructed by Thomas H. Carroll and funded mainly by the Earl of Bandon. It stands on the site of an earlier church, incorporating a limestone font dated 1719. The large ornate timber organ, originally from Christ Church, Bandon, was moved to its present location in 1974.
