About Bandon Methodist Church
Bandon Methodist Church dates from 1821. The church is built of rubble sandstone under a pitched slate roof. Notable features include an internal gallery and an organ.
The building
Corner-sited and double-height over a basement, the structure features a three-bay pedimented west front and a four-bay north elevation. The Duke of Devonshire partially funded its construction to replace an earlier Methodist meeting house, and the exterior displays tooled sandstone eaves, round-headed blind arches, and tripartite timber windows with fanlights. Inside, fluted Doric columns frame the entrance and support a panelled timber balcony with a clock face, while memorial plaques bearing the names Tyndale, Waugh, Cleart and Scott line the walls.
