About Sacred Heart Church, Darrara
Sacred Heart Church, Darrara was built in 1897. It has a six-bay nave, built of squared limestone under a pitched slate roof. Notable features include stained glass including a rose window, a bellcote and a marble altar.
The building
The porch and sacristy have pointed door openings with chamfered ashlar-limestone block-and-start surrounds, voussoirs and dressed relieving arches. Inside, a scissor-beam timber truss roof springs from tooled-limestone corbels, and pointed arcades divide the nave from the side aisles on polished pink-granite columns.
