About Templemichael St John (Longford)
Templemichael St John (Longford) was built in 1710. It has a three-bay nave and rendered walls. Notable features include a three-stage tower with a spire, stained-glass windows, crenellated parapets and pinnacles. The transept was added in 1810.
History
The church stands on the site of a Dominican Priory established c. 1400, and the structure may contain fabric from this earlier complex. It was altered c. 1780 and enlarged between c. 1810 and 1812 to designs by M. McCleland, at a cost of £3221. The interior later received an oak pulpit designed in 1902 by John William Gunnis.
