About Clongish St Paul (Newtownforbes)
Clongish St Paul (Newtownforbes) was built between 1825 and 1830. It has a cruciform plan and rendered walls under a pitched slate roof. Notable features include a two-stage tower, pinnacles and window tracery. The church stands in its own graveyard.
History
The church was built under the patronage of the Forbes family of Castle Forbes and the Achmuty-Munster family of Brianstown House. It was built or rebuilt to designs by John Hargrave, while Lewis recorded an £830 gift from the Board of First Fruits.
