About Star of the Sea, Ballycotton
Star of the Sea, Ballycotton dates from 1901. The church is built of squared limestone under a pitched slate roof. Notable features include a five-stage bell tower, stained-glass windows, mosaic work and a marble altar.
History
Before the present church was available, worship took place in a temporary church. In the early nineteenth century local residents travelled to Shanagarry for Mass, and associates the later church project with the firm of J. J. Coffey.
