About St. Michael
St. Michael was built between 1927 and 1930. It has a cruciform plan, built of limestone under a pitched slate roof. Notable features include a three-stage tower, an internal gallery, crenellated parapets and pinnacles. It was designed by Ralph Byrne.
History
The present church replaced an earlier cruciform church situated to the north-west on Market Street. James Wynne built the replacement to designs prepared by architect Ralph Byrne.
