About St. Mary
St. Mary dates from 1881. The church is built of ashlar limestone under a pitched slate roof. Notable features include a four-stage bell tower, stained glass including a rose window, an internal gallery and a marble altar. It was designed by P. J. Dodd.
The building
St Mary's is a French Gothic Roman Catholic church designed by P. J. Dodd and dated 1881-89. It features a basilica plan with a five-bay nave, pink granite columns, and a four-stage bell tower with an octagonal steeple. The interior includes hand-painted polychrome decoration, encaustic tiled flooring, and stained glass by Lobin and Mayer.
