About St. John the Baptist, Croagh
St. John the Baptist, Croagh was built around 1830. It has a three-bay nave and rendered walls under a pitched slate roof. Notable features include stained-glass windows, an internal gallery and pinnacles.
The building
The church features a gable-fronted porch to the south and a two-bay sacristy to the east. The entrance doorway has a finely carved and chamfered limestone surround with block-and-start detailing, reflecting the Gothic Revival style. Inside, cast-iron columns support a painted timber gallery, while the nave ceiling is supported by a timber scissors truss with render corbels.
