About St Cronan’s Church
St Cronan’s Church was built around 1900. It has a four-bay nave and pebbledashed walls under a pitched slate roof. Notable features include a two-stage tower, stained-glass windows, buttressed walls and lancet windows.
The building
St Cronan’s Church stands at the Gortareven crossroads in Co. Galway. The detached Roman Catholic structure features a four-bay nave, a sacristy to the east, and a two-stage entrance tower with a lead roof. The pebbledashed walls rest on a smooth rendered plinth and are flanked by diagonal buttresses. Pointed-arched openings include lancet windows with chamfered limestone reveals and stained glass. The entrance bay contains a timber battened door with a stained glass fanlight, set within a limestone reveal with hoodmoulding. The site is enclosed by a pebbledashed wall.
