About St. Brendan’s Church, Looscaun
St. Brendan’s Church, Looscaun was built around 1850. It has a cruciform plan with a two-bay nave and pebbledashed walls under a pitched slate roof. Notable features include stained-glass windows, a bellcote and an internal gallery.
The building
Gabled porches were added c.1880 to the gable-front and transept sides, while a two-bay sacristy was later appended to the rear of the chancel. The interior features an open A-framed timber truss roof supported by carved limestone corbels, alongside a freestanding carved marble reredos with a small-scale baldachino. Carved timber frames to the Stations of the Cross and a choir balcony remain intact within the nave.
