About Church of the Assumption, Abbey
Church of the Assumption, Abbey was built around 1850. It has a single-cell plan with a three-bay nave and pebbledashed walls under a pitched slate roof. Notable features include stained-glass windows, a bellcote and an internal gallery.
The building
This freestanding gable-fronted Roman Catholic church was renovated and re-roofed c.1960. It comprises a three-bay sacristy to the north-east end, a flat-roof annex to the north gable, and a gabled porch with a stained-glass overlight reading 'Sancta Assumpta Est'. A statue of Our Lady is set on the upper gable-front, while the interior features an arcaded marble reredos, carved timber confessional boxes, and painted Stations of the Cross.
