About St. Augustine Priory
St. Augustine Priory dates from 1855. It has an eight-bay nave under a pitched slate roof. Notable features include stained-glass windows, an internal gallery and a marble altar.
The building
Designed by architect B. Moran, this freestanding limestone church faces north-west and presents elevations to Middle Street, St Augustine Street and Buttermilk Walk. The structure features an eight-bay nave with a clerestory, side aisles and a single-bay chancel. Exterior details include stepped buttresses with gabled caps, octagonal crocheted pinnacles and a triple-lancet window with lattice-work glazing on the front facade.
