About SS Peter & Paul, Borrisokane
SS Peter & Paul, Borrisokane is a Roman Catholic parish church in Borrisokane, Co. Tipperary. It is part of the Killaloe Diocese.
History
The parish is a combination of three medieval parishes, Uskane, Borrisokane and Aglish.
The present church was built and dedicated in 1973. It was designed by McMahon & Hickey and Partners and built by Tom Hayes of Killaloe. It succeeded an earlier church on the Birr Rd, which had been the place of worship since it was built in 1837.
The building
The church has a capacity of 800 and is an A-frame roofed building, simple in its style, which the parish describes as reflecting the simplicity of church design in the period after the Second Vatican Council. The grounds contain four gardens and a large car park, and give through access to St Peter and Paul's Cemetery.
Notable features
A large front window lights the sanctuary, and a wrought iron reredos represents the Lamb of God. The present church holds the statues and the bell from the earlier church of 1837. A stone baptismal font stands in the garden at the centre of the car park.
