About Saint Oliver Plunkett, Cullyfad
Saint Oliver Plunkett, Cullyfad was built in 1826. The church has rendered walls under a pitched slate roof. Notable features include stained-glass windows and a bellcote.
History
The church was constructed in 1826 under Fr. John O’Reilly, parish priest of Killoe, and follows a T-plan layout with a nave, transepts and a shallow chancel. It was altered c. 1830, 1928 and 1976, with the west gable bellcote probably added after c. 1830 due to Penal Laws restrictions on bells prior to 1829. An earlier place of worship appears on a c. 1814 map of Co. Longford.
