About Sacred Heart Church, Upperchurch
Sacred Heart Church, Upperchurch was built in 1926. It has a T-shaped plan with a six-bay nave and rendered walls under a pitched slate roof. Notable features include stained-glass windows, a bellcote and buttressed walls.
The building
This freestanding gable-fronted church features a rectangular-plan apse and a sacristy to the east. The main doorway is set within an order arch opening with marble engaged columns and a gabled top. A rendered octagonal bellcote with arcaded openwork faces rests partly on a marble column, which forms the keystone of the triple-light window below.
