About Church of the Immaculate Conception, Templederry
Church of the Immaculate Conception, Templederry was built in 1877. It has a cruciform plan with a four-bay nave, built of sandstone under a pitched slate roof. Notable features include stained glass including a rose window, a bellcote and buttressed walls.
The building
Built in 1877, this freestanding cruciform-plan Catholic church features a four-bay nave, double transepts with shallow limestone porches, and a lower canted apse, alongside a recent flat-roofed sacristy at the southeast corner. The structure combines roughly-dressed sandstone walls with a snecked limestone gable front, diagonal stepped buttresses, and a pitched slate roof topped by an ashlar limestone bellcote, cast-iron ridge cresting, and wrought-iron cross finials. Interior details include a sculpted reredos, while the site is enclosed by a rendered boundary wall with cast-iron gates and piers.
