About Sacred Heart Church, Templetuohy
Sacred Heart Church, Templetuohy was built around 1880 in the Gothic Revival style. It has a six-bay nave, built of limestone under a pitched slate roof. Notable features include stained glass including a rose window, a bellcote and an internal gallery.
The building
The church features a six-bay nave with side aisles, gabled transept-like projections, a chancel and a sacristy. Exterior details include carved limestone eaves brackets, ridge crestings and cross finials on the pitched slate roof. The octagonal bellcote rests on an elaborate corbel forming the keystone of the rose window. Interior elements comprise ornate marble reredos, a marble colonnade supporting a pointed arcade and a timber braced scissors-truss roof.
