About Sacred Heart Church, Minane Bridge
Sacred Heart Church, Minane Bridge was built around 1830. It has a cruciform plan with a two-bay nave and rendered walls under a pitched slate roof. Notable features include stained-glass windows, a bellcote and window tracery. The church stands in its own graveyard.
The building
Sacred Heart Church is a cruciform-plan Roman Catholic church built c.1830, remodelled c.1890, and dedicated in 1894, featuring a double-height gable-fronted entrance with a central breakfront porch surmounted by a bellcote, a two-bay nave, single-bay transepts, a single-bay chancel, and a rear sacristy. The roughcast rendered walls display a plinth, quatrefoil gable decorations, and rendered inset fonts, while tooled stone cruciform finials top the gables and a tooled stone plaque marks the porch. Pointed arch openings contain lead-lined stained glass with a hood moulding to the façade and timber tracery windows to the sides, all enclosed by rubble stone and rendered boundary walls within the graveyard.
