About Carrigaline St Mary
Carrigaline St Mary was built in 1823. It has a four-bay nave, built of ashlar limestone under a pitched slate roof. Notable features include a two-stage bell tower with a spire, stained-glass windows, crenellated parapets and window tracery. The north transept was added in 1835.
The building
Designed by George and James Pain, this Church of Ireland church features an octagonal ashlar limestone spire with carved corner-sited finials and a chancel window surmounted by trefoil and quatrefoil stained glass rose windows. Single-storey vestry and office blocks attach to the chancel corners. The graveyard contains mausoleums dedicated to the Newenham family of Coolmore and the Morgan family of Brookfield, alias Kilnagleary, enclosed by rubble limestone walls with wrought-iron double-leaf gates stamped 'W&G Nash, Cork'.
