About Our Lady of the Assumption
Our Lady of the Assumption was built in 1953. It has a cruciform plan under a pitched slate roof. Notable features include stained-glass windows, an internal gallery and a marble altar.
The building
Designed by Robinson, Keefe and Devane, the structure was constructed between 1951 and 1953 at a cost of £68,000. The brown concrete block walls feature strip buttresses and a rendered plinth course, while the interior contains steel roof trusses, parquet chancel flooring and shrines in the transepts. Mahogany seating was installed for £10,000 to accommodate 1,980 parishioners.
