About Mary Immaculate
Mary Immaculate was built in 1876. It has a seven-bay nave, built of limestone under a pitched slate roof. Notable features include a bell tower, stained-glass windows, an internal gallery and mosaic work. It was designed by George Coppinger Ashlin.
History
The Oblate Fathers arrived in Dublin in 1856, purchasing land in Inchicore. The current church replaced an earlier timber structure built by railway workers. The foundation stone was laid in 1876 to designs by George Coppinger Ashlin, with the nave and aisles completed by 1878. A hexagonal chancel was added in 1899, and side chapels in 1901. The building was consecrated in 1903. Bell towers, transepts, and a boundary wall were added in 1930 by Ashlin & Coleman.
