About Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary
Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary was built between 1843 and 1849 in the Gothic Revival style. It has a single-cell plan with a four-bay nave and rendered walls under a pitched slate roof. Notable features include a four-stage tower, stained-glass windows, an internal gallery and a marble altar.
History
Planning for a new church followed Catholic Emancipation in 1829. John Bourke was responsible for the project, and the church opened for worship in 1849. Its crypt was placed high above the adjoining floodplain.
