About Killygarvan St Columb (Rathmullan)
Killygarvan St Columb (Rathmullan) was built between 1813 and 1814. It has a three-bay nave and rendered walls under a pitched slate roof. Notable features include a three-stage tower, stained-glass windows, an internal gallery and crenellated parapets.
History
The church replaced an earlier structure in the Rathmullan Friary chancel. Lewis (1837) records that the Board of First Fruits gave £300 and lent £500 for its erection in 1813. It was consecrated and dedicated to St Peter on 23 September 1831. A chancel and vestry were added in 1887 to designs by Hume Babington and Robert Eccles Buchanan, with Michael Deeny as contractor. The church was rededicated to St Columb at this time.
