About St Mura’s

St Mura’s was built around 1947. It has a seven-bay nave and rendered walls. Notable features include a marble altar and window tracery.

History

Designed by Derry architect Francis Michael Corr, the chapel was built c. 1947 to hold 400 worshippers. It replaced an earlier Catholic church in Fahan built in 1833, which is probably the modified structure at nearby Castlequarter. The building was originally constructed as a chapel of ease within the parish of Fahan Upper.
