About Gowna
Gowna was built around 1840. It has a four-bay nave and pebbledashed walls. Notable features include a bellcote, pinnacles and window tracery.
History
This Church of Ireland church, possibly designed by William Farrell, replaced an original c.1100 structure within a medieval ringfort now used as a graveyard. Although built c.1840, it lies outside the Kilmore diocese in the diocese of Ardagh, near the Co. Longford border. Additions in 1908 included a porch and vestry, while the interior retains an 1898 organ and carved timber furnishings from the remodelling.
