About St. Columba's Church
St. Columba's Church dates from 1939. It has a six-bay nave, built of squared sandstone. Notable features include a bell tower, stained-glass windows and crenellated parapets. It was designed by Ralph Henry Byrne.
History
St Columba's Church was built between 1939 and 1941 to designs by Ralph Henry Byrne. It replaced an earlier chapel from 1832, which was demolished after the new building was completed. The church was dedicated on 5 October 1941 by Bishop McNamee. Construction cost £7,700 and was overseen by Father Peter Murtagh. The building reused stone from Derrycassan House, a former country seat of the Dopping family located nearby.
