About Fermoy Christ Church
Fermoy Christ Church was built in 1802. It has a cruciform plan with a three-bay nave, built of rubble sandstone under a pitched slate roof. Notable features include a two-stage tower with a spire, stained-glass windows, an internal gallery and buttressed walls.
History
Designed by Abraham Hargrave the Elder, the church was built in 1802 to accommodate parishioners and military personnel from nearby barracks. Construction costs were borne by Sir John Anderson and John Hyde, with the site provided by the Baylor Family. The north transept was demolished and the spire added in the 1820s to replace the original. The font bowl dates from the thirteenth century, surviving from the destroyed abbey of Fermoy.
