About Church of the Sacred Heart, Carrickedmond
Church of the Sacred Heart, Carrickedmond was built around 1830. It has a cruciform plan and pebbledashed walls under a pitched artificial slate roof. Notable features include a bell tower with a spire, stained-glass windows, an internal gallery and a marble altar.
History
The church began as a T-plan chapel and was extended about 1891, when the chancel and offset belltower were added. The building stood on land owned by the Jessop family of nearby Doory Hall, and Reverend Edward McGaver was parish priest in 1837.
