About Church of the Most Holy Redeemer, Ballymore
Church of the Most Holy Redeemer, Ballymore was built around 1845. It has a six-bay nave and rendered walls under a pitched slate roof. Notable features include a three-stage tower, pinnacles, window tracery and buttressed walls.
History
The church replaced an earlier T-plan building on the same site and is locally known as the Famine Church because construction began during the Great Famine. Work was not completed until about 1880, after the parish priest returned from a fundraising trip to America.
