About Church of the Assumption, Owning
Church of the Assumption, Owning was built in 1798. It has a cruciform plan with a two-bay nave under a pitched slate roof. Notable features include stained-glass windows, a bellcote and window tracery.
The building
The building stands on the site of an earlier thatched chapel dating to c.1725 and was built in 1798 by William Byrne. It was repaired in 1812 and features six-over-six sash windows, interior galleries, and a panelled ceiling. The grounds are enclosed by a painted roughcast wall with limestone piers and iron gates, alongside a graveyard containing cut-stone markers.
